Probabilistic Risk Analysis Engineer

JOBSUMMARY

This position will be in the SNC CorporateOffice and will report to the Risk Modeling Manager. This engineer is responsiblefor performing engineering evaluations in support of Southern Nuclear OperatingCompany nuclear generating plants. This engineer will be part of the RiskModeling groups in the Risk Informed Engineering (RIE) department. The RIEdepartment is focused on being the industry leaderin risk-informed decisions making by developing, maintaining, and applyingstate-of-the-art tools and models. The PRA Engineer work includes, but isnot limited to, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting technical inputs,demonstrating regulatory compliance, and performing and managing tasks andprojects as part of a team of PRA Engineers. This position requires anindividual to be a self-starter, organized, able to prioritize multiple tasks,and to have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.The person needs to be flexible, demonstrate initiative, and work well in a high-pressure,fast-paced, and deadline-oriented environment.

JOB DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties of the PRA Engineer includebut are not limited to:

  • Responsiblefor performing risk-related engineering evaluations used for ProbabilisticRisk Assessment (PRA) model development and maintenance in support of theelectric generating plants operated by Southern Nuclear Company(SNC). These include SNC’s existing Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) andPressurized Water Reactor (PWR) nuclear plants as well as its new plantsbased on an advanced reactor design, currently under construction

  • Serveas a PRA Engineer in the Risk Modeling group within the Risk InformedEngineering (RIE) Department

  • PerformingPRA model updates and providing risk informed programs support.

  • Interpretingand ensuring compliance with risk informed regulatory requirements,policies and standards, including but not limited to RG 1.200, RG 1.174,RG 1.177.

  • Performassigned engineering task by applying PRA engineering principles.

  • Writingand reviewing technical reports.

  • Makingpresentations.

  • Performingspecial studies.

  • Assistingwith audits and inspections including support of significancedetermination program and emergency request.

  • Providinginputs to and implementing policies and procedures.

  • Travelto plant sites and industry events in support of SNC objectives

JOBREQUIREMENTS

EducationRequirements:

  • Bachelorof Science degree in Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, or nuclear)from an accredited college or university, or Professional Engineer license, isrequired

  • Masterof Science degree in Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, or nuclear) orforeign equivalent is required.

  • Ph.D.in Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, or nuclear) is preferred.

Background/ExperienceRequirements:

  • Knowledgeor experience with nuclear power plant design, systems, and/or operationis required.

  • Nuclearpower plant experience is preferred.

  • Priordirect PRA work experience related to Internal Events, Internal Flooding, Fire,and/or Seismic PRA is an advantage.

  • Experiencewith standard PRA tools like EPRI PRA software (such as CAFTA, FRANX) andPhoenix is a plus.

  • Experienceperforming electrical circuit analysis (such as for Fire PRA, Fire SafeShutdown, or Multiple Spurious Operation) is preferred.

  • Highdegree of analytical skills is preferred.

  • Demonstratedexcellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Organizationaland time management skills are highly preferred.

  • Highdegree of computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, and other database software)required.

  • Proficiencyin database software such as Access or SQL is a plus.

  • Demonstratedteam player and self-starter.

  • Beable to adapt to the changing priorities.
