SNC, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company’s six nuclear reactors located in Alabama and Georgia: two reactors are located at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA, and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. In addition, construction is well underway on two new state of the art reactors at Plant Vogtle location. These are the first new reactors being built in the United States in over 30 years.


This position will be filled considering the knowledge, skills, and expertise of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be responsible for procurement activities supporting business partner requirements. These duties include locating sources of supply, issuing requests for quotes, analyzing bids, creating purchase orders, negotiating terms and conditions, expediting, resolving supplier discrepancies, and executing other supply chain duties as required.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will

  • Work closely with businesspartners to accomplish supply chain objectives

  • Evaluate proposals formaterials and services to determine the best sourcing outcome

  • Issue purchase orders forgoods and services

  • Resolve conflicts ordiscrepancies involving pricing, invoicing, specifications, and contracts

  • Develop and maintain supplierrelationships

  • Review and analyze competitivebids for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies andprocedures

  • Execute on-call support for emergentprocurement requirements during weekends, holidays, or nights per rotatingduty schedule

Job Requirements:

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma

  • Bachelor's degree preferredbut not required

  • Professional certificationthrough ISM, NCMA, or APICS a plus

    Background/Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in procurement orcontracts preferred

  • General knowledge of financeand accounting practices desired

  • General knowledge of powerplant systems and equipment desired

  • Experience working in nuclear powerplant operations desired

  • Working knowledge ofMicrosoft, SAP, IBM, Oracle, or PeopleSoft Applications preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of UniformCommercial Code

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Analytical, communication, andnegotiation skills

  • Ability to operate safely inan industrial setting

  • Ability to interact withsuppliers

  • Ability to coordinate multipletransactions under time constraints

  • Strict adherence toprocurement procedures and documentation requirements

  • General knowledge of businesspractices associated with procurement, budgeting, traffic, logistics,contracts, engineering, risk management, accounting, and legal matters

  • Ability to maintainconfidential information related to procurement activities

Technical Requirements:

  • Maximo and Oracle experiencepreferred

  • Extensive use of MicrosoftOffice
