Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC), headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's six nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: two reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. In addition, construction activities are underway for two new reactors at our Plant Vogtle location.

We currently have two opportunities located at Plant Vogtle Units 3&4 in Waynesboro, GA for Budget Analysts. These positions will function within our Financial Planning and Analysis Department and will be filled as a mid to senior level role based upon the applicant's work experience, education, etc.

Budget Analyst (Plant Vogtle Units 3&4)

Summary of Position Duties

These positions will fill the role of budget analyst for unit 3 and unit 4, respectively, serving as a liaison between the Business Operations team and the Operational Readiness team. Specific job duties will include analyzing cost variances, validating assumptions used for cost projections, and developing operational budgets for the Operational Readiness functional groups.

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Compiling and coordinating budgets and ensuring the budget is prepared and completed in accordance with SNC's goals

  • Compiling and reporting monthly analysis of actual-to-budget data and end-of-year projections

  • This position is also responsible for effective communication of budgets, projections, initiatives, and results to management.

  • This position interacts regularly with management and budget coordinators regarding budget and financial issues, placing emphasis on sound internal controls.

  • This position is responsible for monthly close-out duties, schedule preparation, SNC budgets, and training of budget coordinators and managers.

Job Experience & Education

  • Four-year degree in accounting, finance or business is required. CPA, Masters of Accountancy or finance, and/or MBA considered a plus.

  • Cost analysis and budgeting in CapEx experience is desired

  • Two years of cost experience is required

  • Knowledge of utility accounting and finance and knowledge of specific accounting requirements of Federal Electric Regulatory Commission (FERC) considered a plus

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously and produce timely results in response to changing business needs

  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

  • Ability to work effectively with multiple departments to ensure appropriate levels of communication, cooperation, and achievement of goals and objectives

  • Required self-starter and an ability to make sound decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to work with well with others

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Access)
