Nuclear Plant Simulator Engineer - Plant Vogtle 1&2

It's an exciting time to be part of our growing organization. Southern Nuclear, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's six nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA. In addition, construction of two new reactors in underway at our Plant Vogtle location. Summary of Job Duties:

Simulator Engineer evaluates power plant simulator response compared to expected actual plant response, identifies needed changes to model coding and modifies code. This process involves collecting plant data from different sources, such as operator feedback, operator rounds, plant computer systems, design modification documentation, and vendor manuals. Duties also involve hardware procurement, installation, and maintenance, as well as maintaining simulator support programs such as Instructor Station programs, Executives, Input/Output interface, Peripheral interface programs, external computing devices interface, and data collection. Provides testing support for modifications made to simulator.

Future developmental assignments in operations, maintenance, training, or quality assurance often prepare engineers for supervisory and management positions.

Education:

• BS in Engineering or PE License required for Engineer, with Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Computer Engineering or Civil Disciplines; or equivalent experience in simulation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• A background in engineering related to the nuclear power industry is preferred.

• An ability to solve engineering problems

• A solid understanding of plant operations, print reading ability, and spreadsheet/database management, PWR knowledge is preferred.

• Experience with simulation modeling techniques, programming in FORTRAN, C, and C desired.

Other Requirements :

• The successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.

Please note: This position serves as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO). You are required to live within 90 minutes of Plant Vogtle's ERO facility.
