Southern Nuclear, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's eight nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: four reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. We currently have opportunities located at our Plant Vogtle facility for Nuclear Technician.
The Nuclear Technician is an entry level position designed to prepare you for career advancement in nuclear power. While other career opportunities may be available to Nuclear Technicians based on certain qualifications such as education and testing, Southern Nuclear is specifically looking for candidates with maintenance–related experience, qualifications and education to fill these vacancies.
As a Nuclear Technician at Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro, GA, you will provide a variety of site support work contributing to the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the nuclear facility. Responsibilities may include operating machinery and vehicles; application of herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, minor maintenance activities (plumbing, re-lamping, painting, carpentry and material handling) and waste and decontamination activities. Other responsibilities may include emergency response participation and other interior or exterior manual labor or routine tasks, as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience and Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Two-year technical degree and/or maintenance certifications are strongly preferred
Three years maintenance related experience in an industrial setting preferred
Other Requirements
Ability and desire to comprehend nuclear fundamentals and training for career development
Valid driver’s license
Must be respirator qualifiable
Must possess good oral and written communication skills
Strong safety awareness and history of adherence to safety practices
Work environment may include working in adverse conditions such as inclement weather, hot and cold temperatures, and at elevations
Rotational schedules to include overtime, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
Successful qualifications on MASS pre-employment assessment
Any applicant accepting this position will be required to meet background screening and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Fitness for Duty requirements.
Essential Job Functions
Applicants should meet the physical requirements of the position, including but not limited to: climbing, lifting, bending, stooping, physical labor, etc.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining unit and will pay an hourly rate of $26.04.
