Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Plant Vogtle 3&4 Site Engineering organization is seeking a high performing supervisor with an analytical mindset and leadership skills. This position will be located at Southern Nuclear Company's Plant Vogtle Waynesboro, Georgia.

Summary

This position is assigned to the Engineering Systems Department in the Operational Readiness organization. This position will be accountable for leading a group of engineers in the development and implementation of processes and procedures necessary to support the operation of the next generation nuclear power station. These responsibilities include equipment reliability, system health reporting, and oversight of major maintenance. Additional key responsibilities include the technical and career development of the engineering staff. Site Engineering will assist in the initial testing of the units, including component, system, and startup testing. This organization must ensure that SNC is ready to accept equipment reliability responsibilities in accordance with the station’s Design and Licensing Bases upon the completion of key construction milestones.

Supervisory Duties

  • Supervising assigned personnel, including training, development, annual reviews, and performance of any required discipline.

  • Ensuring proper implementation of corporate, plant, and department policies/procedures.

  • Ensuring training and qualification of personnel in accordance with applicable procedures.

  • Effectively and efficiently supporting plant departments in troubleshooting and problem resolution activities.

  • Ensuring proper nuclear and industrial safety practices are followed by employees and contractors.

  • Must model safe work behaviors.

  • Must be able to hold self and others accountable for safe work behaviors.

  • Ensuring personnel embrace the use of Human Performance Tools.

  • Serving as duty Engineering Supervisor.

  • Acting as an Engineering Manager as required.

  • Serve in the Emergency Response Organization as Engineering Supervisor in TSC.

Education

  • Candidates are required to hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (not Engineering Technology) from an ABET accredited college or university.

  • An advanced degree and/or PE license is a plus.

Job Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of commercial nuclear power plant design or operation experience is preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of commercial nuclear power plant regulations, codes, and standards related to digital control systems, software control, cyber security and electrical supply is strongly desired.

Other Required Attributes

  • Strong background in design, systems, component, or programs engineering.

  • Working knowledge of plant operation.

  • Working knowledge of common computer tools, including MS Word and Excel.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to hold self and others accountable to established policies and procedures.

  • A high degree of management and teamwork skills are required to effectively provide supervision to other engineers and to maintain schedules and priorities for critical work.
